Many thanks for the time you’ve spent with us over the last few years working on various projects and creating some wonderful visual pieces enjoyed by visitors to the country park. It’s a pleasure to extend the use of the facilities here for your woodcarving and I look forward to our next project together!

I have known John White as a professional woodcarver and workshop leader for many years. He is an excellent crafts person and teacher, with the ability to transfer his knowledge and creative skills to a wide range of students, from novice to more experienced woodcarver.

John creates a friendly, welcoming experience to his woodcarving demonstrations and student sessions, and I was fortunate to commission him for visitor events at the Merseyside Maritime Museum for a number of years. On every occasion John proved to be a popular guest craft demonstrator with hundreds of our visitors.

I would recommend John to potential students, education providers and festival event planners without hesitation.

When we commissioned work with John we found from start to finish there was a high level of consultation. There was helpful suggestions about types of wood and even some metal work!

We are very happy with the work carried out, the first commission was for at the sign above the Inn front door, it is still there some 22 years later- suffering some of the worst west coast of Skye weather. I would happily recommend John for any carving, he was a pleasure to work with.

I have known John for over 35 years. We have worked on many joint projects in that time. From small ‘missing’ bits of carved detail to furniture I have restored, to much larger fully carved items of ecclesiastical furniture. We have also made many honours boards with hand carved lettering over the years.

I have found John’s work has constantly been of an extremely high standard, crisp and clean. John also has a fantastic eye for creating a sculpture, that is full of character, in trees and logs.

I will definitely be continuing to work with John as a carver in the future.

John created such a beautiful piece for us that now has pride of place on our wall. We had provided a bit of a brief for him but mainly we wanted to give him free reign, more than trusting in his creative vision. John communicated the progress of the work regularly to my wife, a genuine surprise present to me after a spell in hospital.

What he delivered took our breath away, the timber selection, the workmanship were inspired and faultless. It’s a hugely valuable symbol of triumph over adversity and the strength of our family bond at a difficult time for us. John delivered something utterly unique and personal to us, it’s a real privilege to have our “Tree of Life” in our family”

Always grateful for your work.

Thank you so much for the wonderful sculpture of the wise owl for our garden. Our friends and family admire it too.

I have recommended you to friends. The stunning detail of the work and your pleasant manner have made this a wonderful experience.

Thank you.

The sculpture looks fabulous! I’m very pleased with the final product and the whole process in general.

Thank you very much!

John has taught the woodcarving part of the Professional course here at the Chippendale International School of Furniture for a few years now and the feedback from the students is always fantastic. He is both a highly skilled carver and an engaging teacher.

Please pass on our thanks to John. We both enjoyed the course very much and John’s expert tuition made everything seem so easy. We are in the middle of moving house at the moment and can’t wait to get our workshop set up to try our newly learnt skills.

We’d both love to come back next year to have a go at the intermediate course. We’ll keep a close eye on the website and look forward to you announcing the dates.

Best wishes and thanks again.

For Christmas 2017 my daughters gave me a surprise present- They had paid for me to attend a Woodworking Class run by John White at The Greasby Community Centre January 2018. I only went because I didn’t want to upset my daughters. I had no expectations or aspirations. The class was made up of complete beginners like me and others who had obviously been going for a while.

John welcomed us all and as the weeks went by I realised that I was actually enjoying his lessons. Whatever stage you are at John is able to show and lead you through the various techniques you need to learn.
The classes are highly structured to enable everyone at whatever ability level to develop and progress at our own pace.

John is very knowledgeable, highly skilled, and he has a warmth and manner about him that ensures I enjoy going each week to his lessons. I have continued to this day with his classes at the Centre and I feel I’m extremely lucky to have both met him and to work alongside him.

Had a fantastic weekend on John’s latest woodcarving course. Learnt loads and came home with my own piece of carving (an owl). Thank you John (and Carol for organising everything). Will definitely keep on carving. Was a complete beginner but feel confident I have the right basic skills now. Great fun too – even for someone with limited mobility – John made sure that I was still able to fully participate.

I decided to do this course as I’ve never worked with wood at all (in my day the girls only did needlework/cookery at school). It’s been on my bucket list for a while.

I was apprehensive at first but John’s teaching technique soon made for a relaxing weekend. We had loads of ideas and information given to us and expert demonstrations from John. Lots of help was given where needed.. Would definitely consider doing a follow up course; this was excellent and well worth the money.

I have enjoyed John’s company and guidance at the Greasby Woodcarving course for several years.

No matter your knowledge or level of expertise, John is always on hand with advice and ideas of how to move your project forward.

I hope to continue with the Greasby Course for many years to come, I get a sense of achievement with each project I complete and look forward to working on the next.
