About John White Woodcarving

John is an experienced woodcarver taught by local master craftsmen. A hobbyist turned professional (having made a brave escape from British Rail) he has some fourteen years experience in a diverse range of woodcarving projects.

Like many carvers through the ages he has learned to be flexible in his approach and will carve just about anything!

He is happy to discuss your ideas and advise on design, finishing and tuition.

Sales and services

There is nothing quite like the unique warmth and beauty of carved wood, where one is compelled to look into the piece, not just at it.

Commissions

If you are looking for that unique gift for a special occasion we can offer a whole range of traditional and contemporary hand carved items - signs, clocks, rough - hewn log sculptures for the garden, architectural pieces and furniture!

John can work from customer’s specifications or provide a complete service from initial designs to the type of finish best suited to the piece.

Restoration and repair

We regularly supply pieces for the antique and restoration trade, and to individuals who have carvings and furniture in need of repair, all at reasonable rates.

Woodcarving Supplies

Other services include tool sales, carving blanks, tool sharpening and most importantly advise and information!

We do not hold tools or timber in stock, but order on a regular basis, if you have any enquires, contact us.

Out and About!

John is passionate in his attempts to communicate these age old hand crafting skills to the general public in the hope they may be kept alive for future generations.

He can provide a unique "hands on" experience for fairs schools museums, parks and a variety of venues throughout Britain.

Regulars include Merseyside Maritime Museum, National Trust Properties and Chatsworth Country Fair.

Courses

Have you ever been tempted to create a pleasing shape from a piece of wood?

Blending handwork and thought, whereby what you may carve is really made, not just touched in passing, using tools which have barely altered since the bronze age?

John can offer courses to suit every taste - from the complete beginner to the more advanced.
